You can turn your own app into a template to be cloned by other Softr users!
You can turn any app you’ve built in Softr into a template that other people can clone into their own workspace, complete with its pages, blocks, styling, connected database, and workflows. Share it with a link or submit it to be featured on Softr Universe.
Creating a template works for apps built on Softr Databases as well as apps connected to Airtable. (Earlier, template creation was limited to Airtable-based apps — that’s no longer the case.) When someone clones your template, Softr copies the app along with its data source and workflows so they get a working starting point, not an empty shell.
In Softr Studio, go to Applications in the left sidebar. Your apps are listed under the All tab.
The Applications dashboard, listing your apps.
2
Open the app's actions menu
Hover over the app you want to turn into a template and click the ⋯ (more actions) button on its card. The menu includes Duplicate, Share, Move, Create a template, View connections, Change thumbnail, and Delete.

3
Select Create a template
Choose Create a template. The Create a template from this app dialog opens.
4
Fill in the template details
Complete the fields in the dialog:
Template name — a short, descriptive name.
Description — a few sentences describing what the template does.
Thumbnail — click Upload thumbnail to add a preview image that represents the template.
The 'Create a template from this app' dialog.
As the dialog’s Heads up! notice reminds you: make sure you’re not sharing personal or sensitive data within your template. Anyone who clones the template receives a copy of the connected data.
5
Create the template
Click Create template. Your new template is saved to your workspace and appears under the Templates tab (see below).
For an app connected to Airtable, make sure the underlying Airtable base is set up so that clones get their own editable copy of the data — typically by sharing the base with a public, read-only link that has “Allow viewers to copy data out of this base” enabled. See Airtable for how Softr connects to Airtable.
Templates you create live under Applications → Templates. If you haven’t made any yet, you’ll see “You have not created any custom templates.” with a link to learn how.
The Templates tab under Applications, where your custom templates are collected.
Your template isn’t visible to anyone else automatically. You can distribute it in two ways.
Share a direct link
Submit to Softr Universe
Share your template’s link directly with the people you want to be able to clone it. Anyone who opens the link can duplicate the template into their own Softr workspace.
Submit your template to Softr Universe to have it featured in Softr’s public gallery, where the wider community can discover and clone it.
When someone clones your template, permissions configured on individual blocks (such as visibility or edit permissions) may be reset in their copy, and data-source–specific configuration is preserved only when their workspace connects to a compatible data source. Have them review the app’s connections after cloning.
