You can turn any app you’ve built in Softr into a template that other people can clone into their own workspace, complete with its pages, blocks, styling, connected database, and workflows. Share it with a link or submit it to be featured on Softr Universe.
Creating a template works for apps built on Softr Databases as well as apps connected to Airtable. (Earlier, template creation was limited to Airtable-based apps — that’s no longer the case.) When someone clones your template, Softr copies the app along with its data source and workflows so they get a working starting point, not an empty shell.

Why create a template

Templates are a fast way to package and reuse work you’ve already done:
  • Speed up client and agency work — build an app once and spin up a fresh copy for each new client instead of starting from scratch.
  • Sell your work — package an app as a template and sell it, for example through a Gumroad storefront.
  • Generate leads — offer a useful template for free to attract potential customers to your product or service.
  • Showcase your no-code expertise — publish polished templates to build a reputation in the community.

Create a template

1

3

Select Create a template

Choose Create a template. The Create a template from this app dialog opens.
4

Fill in the template details

Complete the fields in the dialog:
  • Template name — a short, descriptive name.
  • Description — a few sentences describing what the template does.
  • Thumbnail — click Upload thumbnail to add a preview image that represents the template.

As the dialog’s Heads up! notice reminds you: make sure you’re not sharing personal or sensitive data within your template. Anyone who clones the template receives a copy of the connected data.
5

Create the template

Click Create template. Your new template is saved to your workspace and appears under the Templates tab (see below).
For an app connected to Airtable, make sure the underlying Airtable base is set up so that clones get their own editable copy of the data — typically by sharing the base with a public, read-only link that has “Allow viewers to copy data out of this base” enabled. See Airtable for how Softr connects to Airtable.

Find and manage your templates

Templates you create live under Applications → Templates. If you haven’t made any yet, you’ll see “You have not created any custom templates.” with a link to learn how.

Share your template

Your template isn’t visible to anyone else automatically. You can distribute it in two ways.
When someone clones your template, permissions configured on individual blocks (such as visibility or edit permissions) may be reset in their copy, and data-source–specific configuration is preserved only when their workspace connects to a compatible data source. Have them review the app’s connections after cloning.

Create an App From a Template

The other side of the flow — start a new app from an existing template.
